RADNOR, PA— The Archbishop Carroll volleyball team did what they have been doing all season- winning; and Wednesday night’s semifinal game against Archbishop Wood was not any different.

The defending Philadelphia Catholic League Champs are once again heading to the finals after defeating the lady Vikings in 3 sets. The Patriots (12-0) set the tone coming out strong and quickly ended the first set 25-10.

Although never leading, The Lady Vikings (9-3), continued to play with tenacity and spirit and seem to gain some momentum in the second set at one point trialing 7-5.

But that two point difference did not last long as the Patriots quickly took control ending the second set 25-12.

The Lady Vikings continued to rally and did not back down, but they were no match for the Patriots who took the third and final set 25-14.

Despite the loss, first-year Vikings head coach Tim Killian was proud of his team and having lost 7 seniors to graduation, his approached this season was a rebuilding one.

“Every game was a learning experience. We had a lot of fun and we kept improving. We are getting better and getting better. We just did not have enough to do it tonight.

Killian sites are already on next season.

“I have a great group of kids coming back. We have a lot of talent coming up and coming back so we are really looking forward to it.

Leading Killian’s squad this year were his three senior captains Izzy McCormick, Olivia Baccardo and Bella Straface. The trio took this loss not as a disappointment but rather in gratis for having made it this far.

Archbishop Carroll is going for their third consecutive title. The Patriots will face Cardinal ‘O Hara (11-1 league), a team that lost only once during the PCL season- a loss which came at the Patriots hands.

Despite the pressure of being undefeated, Carroll senior libero Abby Wright knows that they are ready for the challenge as long as they do what they are accustomed to doing.

“We always just try to play our game and play a clean game and keep our energy up and just support each other through it. If we get down a little bit we just get back in our grove and do what we do,” said Wright.

“Going undefeated has always been our goal and achieving it feels so great but now that we know that we are the hunted and we have something to lose, so going into this championship we know we have to keep our energy up and play our game and play the hardest we can and we will see what happens,” said Wright.
