RADNOR, PA -The super season continues for the Archbishop Carroll Patriots’ volleyball team. The team hosted the Bonner & Prendergast Pandas in Philadelphia Catholic League (PCL) action on Thursday, October 4, and came away with a 3-0 shutout.

Carroll was victorious by scores of 25-14, 25-12 and 25-5. With this outcome it improved its overall record to 13-2 on the season. It remained undefeated in the Catholic League at 8-0.

“We played a good solid game of volleyball,” said Abby Wright.

Wright prevailed for the Carroll defense with 15 digs. Teammate Melanie Cotes recorded a total of 32 assists. Paige Monastero (15 kills) and Meghan McCann (12 kills) also contributed. The Patriots would not be where they are at this point in time without everyone working together.

“We all play well together as a team,” said Wright. “We always play our best.”

This outcome brought Prendie’s record to 5-3 in the PCL and 7-5 overall. As a big setter for Carroll, Cotes proved to be an especially tough match for the Pandas and they had to watch out for her.

“We knew we had to get out and block her,” said Ariana McGeary who accounted for four kills, three digs and a block.

Holding on to a 2-0 advantage, Carroll wanted to get through the third round and walk off of the court victorious right then and there. Trailing, 17-4, Prendie used one last time out hoping to avoid the sweep and thus force a fourth round. Following the time out, the Pandas cut the score to 17-5 but the Patriots finished with an 8-0 sprint and called it a match.

“It’s great,” said Wright. “We love spending time together.”

Lindsey Fagan (three kills, two blocks, nine assists, six digs), Dakota McLaughlin (three service aces, four kills, eight digs) as well as Samantha Lachette (nine digs, two kills) all paced Prendie as its team chemistry continues to improve.

“We’ve worked together more,” said McGeary. “When we start the game; we huddle, move our feet and talk more.”

With the Catholic League playoffs starting in just a few short weeks, both Carroll and Prendie are working hard to secure a berth.

“I think we’ll be able to get through the rest of our season as long as we work together,” said McGeary. “Hopefully, we can take any team for the rest of the season.”
