VILLANOVA, PA--This past Tuesday, was the last league game of the season for the Academy of Notre Dame’s field hockey team. It was also senior day, a day to recognize the nine upperclassmen who will graduate this spring. It was also a day that senior captain Lauren Curran will never forget.

Curran, a Boston College commit, scored her 100th career goal and her 102nd point this season during that game against Penn Charter.  The midfielder scored eight times leading to a final 10-0 shutout.

“To get my 100th goal on senior day was extremely special,” said Curran.

“It was an amazing way to end my last regular season of high school field hockey. I was so happy that my parents and brothers was here to celebrate this milestone with me. This has been a special season with a great group of teammates and coaches which makes it even better. It’s always great to hit these milestones, but it is far more special when you team is having a great season,” said Curran.

Notre Dame head coach Adele Williams, who has been at the helm of the Irish’s field hockey program for 17 years, praised Curran’s accomplishments and leadership both on and off the field.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to coach Lauren. I've watched her grow over the years coming through our middle school program where she was a huge contributor and now setting her mark in our high school program where she joins a select group of players to achieve this milestone," said Williams.

"She is self-driven and extremely passionate about the sport and puts in the endless hours to keep improving her game. She is a team player and leads by example both on and off the field. Lauren is not just an outstanding field hockey player but a really kind, humble person who will forever be remembered in our field hockey program,” said Williams.

Having joined the varsity team as a sophomore, Curran achieved this goal in only three years.

The Irish finished the season with an 8-2 league record and 17-2-1 overall.

Notre Dame’s Jess Schneider scored two goals during the contest. Maggie Pina, Mia Leonhardt and Schneider also had assists. ND’s Paige Kieft led the defense with three saves.

Curran commended her team for the great season and said she is looking forward to post season playoffs.

“I am so proud of my teammates and what we have accomplished so far. We have worked really hard to be the best we can be this year. My coaches have done a great job with our schedule this season, preparing us for post season play,” said Curran.

Curran also offered some words of advice to her teammates going forward to next season.

“Enjoy every moment of field hockey because time goes by too fast. Additionally, you get out what you put into things, therefore give it everything you have. No regrets and always remember to play with heart.”

The Irish fell to Episcopal Academy 3-1 on October 23rd, ending their 9-game winning streak and then again to Germantown Academy in a 2-1 overtime thriller just two days later. But for this ND player, those losses fueled motivation.

"We have had a couple of bumps in the road at the end of the season, but we will be more than ready for PAISAA (Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association Tournament). It is redemption time and we will do whatever it takes,” said Curran.

No doubt, the Irish will be ready.

PAISAA begins this Friday, November 2 for the #2 seeded Academy of Notre Dame. They will host Mercersburg in the second round of the tournament. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
