Daly Dominates

Ryan Daly continues to dominate the Catholic League as he lifted his Archbishop Carroll Patriots to a 63-49 victory over St. Joe’s Prep Monday afternoon. Daly scored a game high 28 points, on 11/22 shooting. Throughout a majority of league play, the second half has belonged to Daly and that held true on Monday with 17 of his 28 points coming after halftime. Josh Sharkey continues to stuff the stat sheet as well, he finished with 13 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds.

Daly who was previously considered a three-point specialist is quickly leaving that reputation in the past. His ball handling handling is much improved from last year, and he is attacking the rim much more often. He even added a couple of buckets in the low post. He’s made himself a complete scorer and it has paid major dividends for the patriots. His 23.6 points per game average is tops of the Catholic League by a wide margin.

Carroll will face their toughest test of the season Friday night at Neumann Goretti against the reigning state champion Saints.

Perfect Patriots

Archbishop Carroll moved their Catholic League record to a perfect 6-0 Friday night as they moved past Father Judge 69-57. The Patriots were once again led by the big three of Rigsby, Sharkey, and Daly. Ryan Daly led the team in scoring with 23 points, keeping up with his season average. After scoring just 5 in the first half, Daly came out of the locker room on fire. He scored 9 points in the first 2 minutes of the third quarter, and also hit the shot of the night. A three from almost out of bounds on the left wing with two hands in his face to end the third period. Josh Sharkey added an impressive 18 points and 9 assists.

The role of glue-guy is being played perfectly this season by Senior John Rigsby. Rigsby had a stat line of 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. I spoke to Rigsby briefly before the game, he told me “We’re surprising a lot of people this year, but we’re not surprising ourselves. We don’t have all of the superstar guys that we have had in the past couple of years but we’re playing for each other and we’re all having a lot of fun doing it.”

The Patriots put their perfect league record on the line Monday afternoon, as they take on St. Joe’s Prep at 3:30.

Carroll Runs Past McDevitt

Archbishop Carroll defeated Bishop McDevitt on Monday night by a score of 77-39. The Patriots were led by strong offensive performances by senior forward Ryan Daly, who despite a rocky 0-7 start from the field bounced back and dropped in 26 points, and fellow senior Josh Sharkey who posted a double double with 17 points and 10 assists. Carroll also controlled the rebounding game, senior transfer Miks Antoms led the patriots in that department with a total of 9 boards. John Rigsby had a solid game as the do it all man for the patriots finishing with 9 points and 6 rebounds.

The name of the game for Carroll on Monday was transition. They looked to push the pace any chance they had. Whether it meant wasting no time getting up court after a McDevitt bucket, or streaking down the court after securing the rebound, it was no secret that the patriots wanted to run, and that is just what they did. Carroll was also looking to get the Lancers to panic while they controlled the ball. The patriots pressed McDevitt throughout a majority of the game, this led to a number of steals and easy fast-break buckets for Carroll.

The patriots are back in action this Friday as they take on West Catholic at 7:00 at Carroll.
